History

Old Sacramento– Distance from Camp-Resort: 35 miles

Old Sacramento is the riverfront historic district, with Gold Rush-era buildings, cobblestone streets, and horse-drawn carriages. It’s home to numerous museums, including the Sacramento History Museum and the state Railroad Museum, which offers excursion train rides.  Be sure to call ahead for current hours.

Government

California State Capitol Museum – Distance from Camp-Resort: 40 mile

California’s state capitol building is both the location for the state’s working government, and a museum featuring educational exhibits, historic architecture, art and more.  A well rounded curriculum can be discovered within its granite structure.  Please visit the museum’s website for current hours and updates.

 

Biology

Sacramento Zoo– Distance from Camp-Resort: 36.9 miles

The Sacramento Zoo will provide a lesson in wildlife featuring giraffe encounters, big cats, and more than 20 bird species.  Be sure to visit their website before you go, as an advance ticket purchase may be required.

Science

Calaveras Big Trees– Distance from Camp-Resort: 38.8 miles

Calaveras Big Trees State Park preserves two groves of giant sequoias – the world’s largest trees!   The trails throughout the park will serve as your classroom and includes the Stanislaus River, Beaver Creek, ancient volcanic formations, and natural meadows in its syllabus. Be sure to take notes (and lots of photos)!

Recess
